There’s a million billion trillion ga-gillion websites out there all sporting different web design interfaces. If you’re a web designer trying to make your own website

then you’ll definitely need a damn good design to separate yourself from the rest of the websites on the Internet. Being unique is the first step to getting your own slice of Internet goodness.

Since the early 2000’s social sites such as Digg & Stumbleupon were barley heard of. Presently in 09′ the social bookmarking scene has exploded exponentially leading more people to find popular posts by visiting their favorite sites or finding out by word of mouth (or tweet) via Twitter.

I’ve compiled a slightly subjective list of the most popular social bookmarking sites according to statistical data from Alexa.com & Compete.com.

My only critique of social bookmarking sites is that its becoming more and more fractured and segmented. I’m not entirely sure if this is a good thing for bloggers. Personally I despise blogs that use more than 6-7 sharing buttons. But I get the feeling that in the next 3-4 years we’ll have 300 different social bookmarking sites devoted to different topics.

Finding decent hi-quality vector icons for free via google is kinda hard & annoying. My results mainly lead to sites that wanted to sell you icons. I don’t beleive in paying for things like that, especially when there’s an abundant amount of vector icons that are available for free.

Which is more important ? Style or Speed. This is such a hard question when it comes to web designing & optimization for search engines. This is especially true when it comes to smaller niched blogs. If you don’t already know which is important then let me tell you. The first impression you give your visitor is the most important, most crucial, most judgmental moment that will either make or break your website.

So what’s more important to you ? Having a website that has all the bells , whistles and a ridiculous twitter widget that takes over 15 seconds to load over cable broadband (5 years for 56k users).

Or instead prefer to have a site that allows you to have the best of both style and speed.
