Web Design Resources & Tutorials to help you design the best website!
I usually keep my nose out of other people’s business on the Internet but I came across this great open source script that allows you to essentially run your own youtube website. It’s called ClipBucket and it comes with all the bells and whistles. Now I’m all for supporting the author and all in the form of donations but one thing makes me really angry.

Don’t force your back-link and plaster your site name all over what essentially should be “OPEN SOURCE” as in I can do whatever I can do with it including removing your back-link. This pisses me off because you are pretty much using a demo when you think about it because the author really pushes for you to buy a license so you can “remove the copyright”.
If you try to remove the footer backlink then you will be shown “Illegal Operation Found- Please VISIT ClipBucket for Details” THIS REALLY PISSES ME OFF !
So this is where I come into play , if you don’t want to show the good people how to remove the copyright that’s allright I’ll teach people how to unlock the true potential of the open source script.
How to Remove the Footer

Dear Script Author (arslan hassan a.k.a.[D-Bag] ) : If you want to charge people then charge people , don’t B.S. your way acting as if it really is free

hi..nice tips.
.
however, i tried it but its not working for me. In step 6 and 7, there is no ” Powred by clipbucket” anymore..maybe they have change it.
But what i did was..i replace the 64base code with my own 64base code, which represent a “dot”
Btw, can u help me, (and others too) to change the title of the video? there is still (powred by clipbucket) on the title at the browser tab. It also appear whenever we paste the video url for eg at facebook.
I think its define by {cbtitle} in the global_header.html file.
TQ!

@ Rizal I haven’t used the software anytime recently due to time constraints and because it does not work on windows based servers but If I were you I would suggest searching each file in notepad and using the CTRL+F function to find that line faster.
That is what I essentially did to remove the ridiculous copyright in this tutorial.

@ Rachel I doubt it because the version that is available on the website is still the same since last I checked but the same way to protect the code is pretty much the same regardless of which file you place it in.
Take some time to see the source file and find out where each php /include is coming from you should eventually find out where the base64 code is coming from so you can just delete the line and not have any checks done.

This is really cool, CB name is really overkill in the script. Thanks for protecting the real meaning of Open Source.

Or you can search on CB_config table a code_dev
change code_dev with anything
I supose that you cant use this blank
Write ” ” land or Point “.”

Noone is challenging you Arslan, we are just trying to do the right thing here. Open Source is Free, You know that very well, but still you are trying to get people to pay you throught childish
games of cat and mouse. Why cant you just leave the code free from that capitalistic bullsh. and
try to be remembered like one of the guys that did the right thing, someone young coders will look
up to.

You’re giving him all the more reason for using obfuscation and such.
I’m surprised at how stupid you people are.

Did you even take the time to read or are you blind ?
The whole point was to use the open source script at face value , with the perspective that anyone would be able to remove the link which passes on rank to his own website.
I get it he deserves recognition but forcing people to have a link is seriously obnoxious in and of itself.
So by the time you pull your head out of your ass and read this . . . hopefully you get the message.

I don’t think you guys know what “Open Source” really means. When something is called OPEN SOURCE, it means that the source code which runs the program is given to you for free, which means you can modify whatever you want with it EXCEPT discredit the author. An Open Source product usually comes with a name or branding…like how MOZILLA FIREFOX had its name.
Would anyone of you want to take MOZILLA FIREFOX and claim as your own because you “changed” the title? I don’t think so.
I’m not saying it is wrong to remove the credits or the back-link, I not saying that Arslan Hassan is correct either.
I just think that Arslan Hassan DESERVES some credit for his work….and you and I can do whatever we want to the program.
Yes…I want to get rid of the credits and back-links also but my point is that you guys, please don’t get so pissed after someone who should be thanked and credited in the first place.
Anyone agree with me?

TJ, that is exactly the situation. If you use opensource without a license, you are bound to have a footer message in most cases. That’s only fair and shockingly meaningful i guess. How in the world can anyone disagree, it is beyond me. Like driving a free car and not wanting to show the providers logo on the tail. It’s not going to work, the provider simply won’t sit around and look at that for long and you’ll be riding your bike again.
And Rohin, you are breaking copyright rules, it is so amazingly straight forward. Maybe it is not so interesting whether I’m blind, since I’m not the one missing the target.
You think it’s all cool to be rude towards people who are actively working on bringing decent stuff to people for free, only asking to have their name and link on the stuff in a footer? It must be a terrible world you live in, with all those commercials all around. I can list so many situations, but they’re probably not familiar to you anyway.
The only thing you’ll ever get from this is forced licensing to use the software, and that’s not what we’re trying to do here.
You must have never coded anything in your life if you think anyone would release something like clip-bucket, and keep updating it, without even a linkback somewhere. The whole point is to use it for ‘branding’ the coders and improve on their resume (in this case during education). But you never really stopped to think about it did you?
You realize it is illegal and that there are laws in place to deal with this, and that you are saying ‘the law is wrong, i feel raped because this guy want his link in the footer, so it is perfectly ok for me to ignore the law’ .. Why are you so angry at the people actually doing the work? What is your problem and why do you do these things? Are you having a good time? You was given around 90k seconds today, did you spend one of them saying thanks to anyone for something they did? Think about it. To be fair, just don’t use it if you can’t stand the footer, how hard can it be? We are also giving support for free, i don’t want to support you who are so rude – i am not alone, so what does that say? Be fair, if you have nothing good to provide, at least try not to take what other people could have used for good.
You also realize that this stuff is hosted on a domain that can be made responsible? Do you then realize that we are actually here discussing it and not just going directly for the domain? What does that tell you, and please give the thought a minute to mature itself before just attacking the keyboard, you may have mistaken something. Or at least hit the brake right about now.
It’s a very charming response you give up there, is that the best you can do?
At least the coders got something to be angry about, i’d expect that as a response to this article otherwise i guess we’re up against real stupidity. Oh i did already mention that in my earlier response, almost clairvoyance going on lol
You can’t just ignore the rules of law (duh), also i find it morally inexcusable to combat open-source since it is in general a positive and good initiative imho. That’s why i responded in the first place, now see what you’re doing. If what you say and try to push was to be the general line of thought, you’d all get nothing from opensource coders in the future. Goodbye WordPress (this blog, hey where is the footer?!), PhpBB, SMF, etc,etc,etc .. and Clip-Bucket.
Way to go . .. Stay proud

one sentence to resume all you said above:
the script should never been released as Open Source, probably I will never release a script like this as free and even less open source and I definitely don’t feel any shame saying that.
coding this took years and personaly I don’t have that energy and heart that arslan keep giving you.
work ethic is definitely not the same as we are living in different countries.
arslan is acting like other opensource softwares (wordpress, boonex)
look at the dolphin software is offering a way (adfree) to remove their company name:
http://www.boonex.com/unity/blog/entry/Need_To_know_where_to_get_rid_of_the_Boonex_Links_at_the_bottom
> Arslan:
I really think that the “powered by clipbucket” is largely enought and was a great idea…
the link to your profil “Arslan Hassan” is the one that people may find too much and overdo.
regarding the {cbtitle}, that was a real problem too for me when I just started and didn’t know anything about the script, as you don’t get unique title to rank in the search engines.
> Rohin, Anders
you should just keep your removing tips to only you and not make it available to public like this, this looks like a hatting/critic dedicated post.
hope you don’t mind, just think twice before posting stuffs.
we already know that clipbucket is a recent opensource project created and supported by young developers, so insteed of thinking like babes like bitches will not help us more to give and to correct in the case of something we forgot to add in the script.
Obviously Clipbucket is not perfect. So use it as it is.

December 17th, 2010 at 4:27 pm
To remove the “powered by clipbucket from the title” you must edit a sql table inside cb_config. Its the config id number 64. Overwrite with the text that you must like it and save it.
And about open source… it sucks… Its a marketing way to engage enterprises to invest on free code, but without all the freedoms of free software.
And, sorry but if you can hack you can brake… thats the thing.

First We have to appreciate Arslan Hassan as a founder, we have to thanks for him..
for oUTSKIRTs, you r right but you have to know why does poeple angry ?
in my opinion Open source (commonly) = hundred of developer in the world through internet work together to build a website. AND In open source remove copyright doesn’t prohibited by law but.. just its really not ethic..
I think clipbucket not open source, this web build by one peope Arslan Hassan, right ?
but arslan make “ClipBucket is an opensource and free script “… in front page (words is mean in law)
————————————————
So just make it clear,.. just choose it
1. This is “opensource” download
2. Commercial “trial web”,..download
3 OR.. is Open source (totally free) for poeple who knows ” how to remove copyright.
and its is Pay for ” poeple doesnt know how to remove”..
If no. 1. You can make simple Poor version web for free,.. and you can sell the templates..and complete function..
If no.2 . You have to mention it in download link.
if No. 3,…
http://sherifabdou.com, you should remove this posts (thread). for appreciate,.. @ Arslan Hassan = make it difficult to remove the copyright..
Thats it.. dhany_rachman AT yahoo.com

Thanks SherifAbdou for this blog and help
As he(Arslan) said it is open source, he should not use this way to make money. There are other ways too which he is using it like mass embedder..
But He should be given credit for making it free(open source). It is his hard work and any guy who cannot afford to buy it can use this for free.
I would prefer to keep his name on the bottom of my website and not the links but its removing everything.
hope he just come up with name only and that too in bottom of page.
any way thanks to all, its a good blog.

Thanks to everyone who has contributed to this post, it has helped me a lot.
I, like many others who use clip bucket, have no issue with giving *some* tribute to the original designer of the program. I do not mind leaving a footer at the bottom.
The two things which annoy me:
1) The footer which the name of the designer- This is not necessary
2) The Title which has ” powered by clip bucket”- This is VERY unnecessary and actually almost made me want to ditch Clip bucket.
I have since removed these from my website.

for those that are going nuts over this it’s a real simple fix, just find your template footer.html and change this line
{$Cbucket->footer()}
to this
<!–{$Cbucket->footer()}–>

ohh and btw, I’m kind of indifferent on this issue, I mean, it’s great work, it really is, and a little link back I don’t think is generally a major issue, however sometimes when exploits are found common code features like this link back can make them open to the vulenbility in that a quick google search can help you find the websites to hack.

Don’t forget to delete the base64_decode

Attacking Mr. Pakistan is not the way to resolve this problem. It does not matter what motivates his greed (if any). Simply do not pay. Next read.. as painful as that may seem to some. When you find a solution to the desired effect POST IT. The last step is to DOG PILE him until he submits.
The warning at the bottom says Dont mess with our code. The code does not belong to him or anyone. I developed one of the first streaming headers for AVI files. This brought about the .ASF file. I also worked the YouTube application before it was “stollen” from me. I worked on FFMEG encoders that is used today in the backend of YouTube.
To remove the Branding and the nag message I concur that the easiest solution is to find function.php and then search for footer(); in the newest version of ClipBucket.
The easiest way to make changes to the site is to download one of the FREE templates at ClipBucket. This way you will not be altering the core application, rather you will be altering an add on theme. There are many of them available.
Upload the template FIRST without editing. Select the template from the admin section. Then make your revisions. You can then edit the footer.html and make the changes on the links to point to your site. Then edit the function.php file.
Make backups of any file you plan to edit before you edit the file. If something goes wrong you can then start over without a reinstall. When you use a free template the nag screen is easily defeated. The default template is another story.
I did not remove the base 64 code. That seems to cause the smarty scrip to activate some otherstring of code that wil rat you out. Thus giving the developer reason to create another fix on his end to implement another branding scheme.
I thinl the developer is entitled to charge whatever he likes for the work he has done. He is no different than Microsoft who has made trillions at this type of tactic. In fact this is the norm for any programming. If he thinks his work is worth hundreds of dollars, he is entitled to charge for it. If you think the price is too high then try to negotiate a price, read and fix it yourself or simply move on. Calling him a greedy Paki is not helping the situation. That is uncallled for. Although I disagree with the comment that “NO One ELSE” (quote) could do the work (this statement is rediculous- Military personel could easily build the thing from scratch) the work is quite good, well thought out and very well maintained.
I would suggest the author make the branding a little less intrusive by reducing the font and placing a branding feature in the admin. Other people should try to understand that this person has long amounts of time invested and may be struggling to keep the project moving forward. FREE is BS. It cost money to develope anything. Developers are worth at least minimum wage. You have no problem tipping a waitress so if you use the software “tip” the developer. The developer should put a pay Pal donate button on the site.
I have invented and written many technologies. In 1990 I developed a way to stream AVI files across a LAN using a special header file. This is the first streaming video that spawned .asf and then .flv nearly ten years later. Streaming at that time was not even a concept. My file was the first to actualy play before it downloaded on the LAN. At that time there was no AOL and no Internet as you know it today. Let’s face it, the internet realy did not get started until 1995 with the introduction of Windows 95.
If you are going to hack the script code add a link for the developers in a fashion that best suits your use. Cutting out the developer all together is just as bad as him over branding the project.
I woud suggest a round badge that can be turned on and off in the admin panel.

It’s Open Source approved but it’s not GNU/GPL.
Having said that, it is all a big con . It’s the same with PHPMotion; they are all crooks using “Open Source” as an excuse to con people into buying buggy products. Another one is hwdVideoShare; he goes that guy bangs on about Open Source and how all software should be free but you have to pay for all the vital plugins. At last he doesn’t force you to put an attribution link. I guess he has to follow certain rules to be listed in the Joomla! extension directory though and that might be one of them.
As for the creator of ClipBucket, he wont support his clients but he has time to read blog comments like this.
And I don’t know why he is so obsessed with Pakistan; I get that he is from Pakistan but he needs to chill out because that people don’t care where he is from or how patriotic he is. He needs to be more professional and patriotic toward his PRODUCT. He can have a really good thing going with it. If Windows had USA plastered all over it and American flags everywhere people would be pissed off because it isn’t about that.
When you signup as a user in ClipBucket your location is initially set to Pakistan! It irritates me. Even the video player logo says “Pak Player”.
Having said that the script does have some cool features (WHEN THEY WORK!) such as remote video upload.

Con isn’t the word I’d use for them. It’s more like RIPOFF
I bought their Facebook Connect and had nothing but trouble. Then I found out my “license” had to keep reconnecting to their server for authentification. So if their server was slow or down My site would error out.
Then I joined their forum and shared all the re-writes I made to their code in open forum. What a mistake that was. Evidentually I was banned for giving the code for a Facebook Comment box to another user. Why? I have no idea they have refused to tell me. But I think it’s because I gave something for free (which I got from the facebook developement page) that they were selling and charging 8 dollars for.
Now the worst of it. I have requested 5 times for them to remove my intellictual re-writes and all my information and they have refused.

Err, well, you can always just go to footer.html and delete everything such as the href and the writing O_o

i think arslan hassan should get the credit for the script by getting backlink or money, this is a big (fail, but big) project and he spent lot of hours.
i paid $50 for the mass embedder, $40 for the facebook connect and $90 for branding removal.
NON OF THEM WORKS!!! arslan blocked all the codes with PHPSHEILD and i need to move my site to another server if i want to use it, when i tryed to ask for refound or support they just laughed in my face.
only kids playing those kind of games.
after spending lot of hours i decided to delete those stupid plugins and to build it by myself.
to delete the footer links, delete this function.
function cbRocks()
{
define(“isCBSecured”,TRUE);
echo cbSecured(CB_SIGN);
}
/**
* Insert Id
*/
function get_id($code)
{
global $Cbucket;
$id = $Cbucket->ids[$code];
if(empty($id)) $id = $code;
return $id;
}
if you want facebook comments you can just add new ad place under the clip in the “watch_video.html” template and insert your script in this ad place.
then add to the “global_header.html” template the meta properties
i did it in less then 5 minutes and it work perfect
you can insert any kind of scrip in ad place and place it inside the templates.
i think there should be a forum for all the clip bucket user where we can develop the script, there is lot of errors. and we can build and share our plugins for free..
