With summer almost here let’s look at some of the latest laptops that will help you while your on the go. So I’ve compiled a list of some of the nicest laptops I personally would buy, with the intentions of graphics designing and a little bit of gaming.

Plan out your purchase !

One tip of advice that you should always follow when purchasing your new laptop is make sure the graphics card is pretty dam good. By pretty dam good I mean it has to be useful for at least a year and a half to 3 years. Technology improves fast , although ram can be upgraded easily most graphic cards on laptops can’t !

As a designer I’ll be frank with you , On average most of the time on my laptop I have at least 20 tabs open in Firefox , 20 more in Chrome , Photoshop , Fireworks Dreamweaver , Msn & Aim as well as an MP3 player of some sort playing in the background! So if you use your computer like I do then you’ll probably want 4gb ram minimum running on an 64-bit OS.

I’ve broken the laptop list into 2 categories , One for the designer on the go who always has to be lugging around their laptop , Two for the designers such as myself that wants a laptop powerful enough to suffice as a desktop replacement and don’t mind a 17inch+ LCD screen. Personally I can’t wait to upgrade my Vaio FZ to an 18 inch desktop replacement. I love laptops with big shiny screens.

[ Laptop ] Z-Series Sony Vaio Notebook [13.1 Inches] Weighing just 3.42 lbs.

Designer Laptop Summary : Lenovas aren’t high profile as a Sony Vaio or as extravegent as an alienware but they build powerful quality computers. This model is powered by a Intel® Core™ 2 Extreme processor X9100 ( 3.06GHz 1GHz 6MB ), ATI Mobility Radeon 3650 512MB , 4 GB PC3-8500 DDR3 SDRAM 1066MHz and includes many others.

[ Laptop ] MacBook Air [13.3 Inches] Weighing just 3.0 lb

Designer Laptop Summary : For those of you mac enthusiasts out there , this is probably already on your wish list of “things to buy”. The MacBook Air is one of the thinnest laptops in it’s class. Powered by up to 1.86GHz by the Intel Core 2 Duo processor and the NVIDIA GeForce 9400M integrated graphics.

Designer Laptop Summary : Although quite pricey Samsung’s X series notebook rivals even the lightest notebooks in it’s class such as Apple’s MacBook Air. Powered by Intel Core Duo 1.2GHz U9300 and the Intel GMX4500. Overall this notebook is quite expensive for the performance it produces. I would only suggest it to people who want the absolute light-as-a-feather laptop. that money can buy.

Designer Laptop Summary : Alienware is the best laptops as well as being the most expensive. But the benefit of buying one of these laptops is that once you buy one you won’t need another laptop for another 3-4 years.





[ Laptop ] AW-Series Sony Vaio Notebook [18.4] Weighing just 8.2 lb

Designer Laptop Summary : At 18.4 Inches , at 2.93 ghz powered by the Intel Dual Core 2 chip along with the NVIDIA® GeForce® 9000 series graphics card this laptop is my dream. It has all the bells and whistles including N-Draft Wifi , Bluetooth Integration and a 1TB hard drive. THIS is what they call a “desktop replacement”. Oh yea almost forgot . . . It plays & burns Blu-Ray discs also.

Designer Laptop Summary : Possibly the best most ridiculous set-ups of any laptop on this planet. That is all I have to say. Go look at their website to see the crazy specifications. (Now just imagine if you overclock the stock laptop !!)

Designer Laptop Summary : One of HP’s heavy duty all-in-one notebooks that has all the bells & whistles any web designer could ask. Ranging from an Integrated HDTV Hybrid Tuner , Blu-Ray ROM with SuperMulti DVD+/-R/RW Double Layer , 1GB Nvidia GeForce GT 130M – For DDR3 Memory. The list goes on and on.

Designer Laptop Summary : Lenova’s smaller series notebook is powerful enough to satisfy a majority of designers needs while light enough to lug around. Powered by a Intel® Core™ 2 Duo Processor P7450 ( 2.13GHz 1066MHz 3MB )and NVIDIA GeForce G 105M 256MB.
