win7(1) Windows 7 Review

I have been trying Windows 7 on my Sony Vaio laptop since the Beta came out and I gotta say I am impressed so far with how it is working. It uses less memory than when I had Vista on and also feels more responsive. This is a plus since I like to have Photoshop, Dreamweaver and multiple tabs in Firefox. In the end the whole laptop just heats up and freezes. To the point, Windows 7 Beta feels more like it is a real production version and not some lousy build.

Some of the things that I liked was the Task Bar. The Task Bar is very customizable and now you have the ability to organize  as you can move around the Items. You can drag and drop and reorder and do whatever you want.  Windows 7 looks to be made to work with Touch Screen monitors more than anything else.

Microsoft Paint is also looking good and has now implemented the Ribbon interface of the Microsoft Office Family. The Gadgets are now integrated into Explorer and d your are no longer limited to the corner area as in Vista to add them. You can right click on the Desktop and just add a gadget or hide a gadget. The File Management is also impressive. It comes with a file preview before opening the file. In addition now you can open ODF(Open Document Format) documents in Notepad. Also, Out of the box Windows 7 now supports H.264 video, MJPEG, and MP3, MP4, 3GP, MPEG2-TS, and AVI.

Overall, I am very impressed with the quality and I think once Windows 7 comes out of Beta and into production it will be widely spread. Here are a few pics.
