Web Design Resources & Tutorials to help you design the best website!

(Picture :The Ten Commandments 1956 )
Google, the Behemoth sized company that it is today has many rules enforced in it’s Adsense system. In certain cases the slightest mistake can mean impending doom and cost you greatly for the potential to monetize your website. This should be taken very seriously because Google does not offer redemption or second chances to reinstate your account 95% of the time.
The chances of your account becoming re-instated is like saying current President George W. Bush is the best president of American History. So I listed here a few of the more important guidelines listed by Google as well as a few others I found while surfing the net.
|
|
| 1 | DO NOT click your own ads (Once your banned , there’s no redemption in Google’s Eyes) |
| 2 | DO NOT use more than 3 Google Ad Units (The 4th is usually ignored and will be empty anyway) |
| 3 | DO NOT change , modify , spruce up , or add anything to the code. (Google gives you the option of using changing font/background colors when you login) Check it out |
| 4 | DO NOT put Google ads on Adult – Oriented Sites or other banned website Content |
| 5 | DO NOT force or encourage your users to click on your ads ( ie. of this site here , he actually makes a post about his ads ! ) |
| 6 | DO NOT blend your ads so that your users can not tell the Difference between advertisement and web-content. I have seen this almost everywhere on the net. Webmasters will use the horizontal Google ad unit and shove it under the Title to make it look like content. Why would you do that ? Sure the user will click it by accident and you will get your .50 cents or whatever the amount may be but in the end you are driving your readers away. No one likes to be deceived so just don’t do it.
(Wrapping images around Adsense is a BIG no-no and will get you banned) |
| 7 | DO NOT forget to create a Privacy Policy Page explaining to your users about the Google Adsense network and how data may be collected. |
| 8 | DO NOT Pay for traffic services that will artificially inflate your traffic statistics. Google’s Engineer’s are smart and will find out eventually. |
| 9 | DO NOT register multiple accounts |
| 10 | Finally people please DO NOT tell ANYONE online how much money you make with Adsense on a Click-Through-Rate and Earning-Per-Impression basis. |
Recent Policy Changes for 2008′ |
|
| 1 | Google requires that any websites participating in Adsense should have / create a privacy policy. (It is very easy to make thanks to Privacy Policy Generators you can find on google like this or this.) |
| 2 | Google makes you responsible for wherever you put the Adsense code. If the website’s material is inappropriate you might get banned. |
| 3 | Google prohibits the use of “third-party services such as paid-to-click, paid-to-surf, auto-surf, and click-exchange programs.” |

Thanks for the Link Rohin, thought I must disagree about encouraging your readers to click the links to your sponsors. You seem to have made an important contextual error – *those sponsors ARE NOT Adsense links*.
For those of you reading this who may not be clear on the difference between Adsense advertisements and Affiliate links:
***I do not get paid on a ‘per click’ basis for those ad banners, all of those sponsors are Affiliate links, and I only get a commission if the reader actually purchases the item in question;
***The post also states that I removed the distracting ads from the sidebar in order to provide a more valuable reading experience.
There is nothing un-ethical about a practice like this, nor does it have anything to do with Google. I have purchased or used all of the products/services mentioned and, as the post states, I will not waste anyone’s time on pushing them toward products or services that they may not need.
Thank you for the opportunity to clarify this for your readers.

You are right , My take on people posting such useless dribble like dedicating an entire post so everyone clicks the ads is beyond stupid and annoys readers.
If the guy took the time to explain each one and possibly a 2-3 line review of each then I have no problem at all.

Great advice. I just got an offer to participate in a “click exchange” network and refused it for obvious reasons.
One consideration when split testing. Regular visitors to your site may be confused by the changes in the layout. Some visitors, in my experience, become testy when anything changes.
And as Stephen said, performance ads or affiliate ads are completely different species from AdSense. Each program (CJ affiliates for instance) has its own rules. Lots to manage, but worth the effort.
