gog Google Chrome Review : Freebies Themes & Plugins

Well the news is out about giant search engine tech company Google (GOOG) has recently & quietly released their web browser on Labor Day. At first glance the browser seems very simplistic and minimalistic in design. But you will grow to like the simplicity of their design as there is less clutter and silly add-ons. If you stop to think about it , it’s actually sleeker than firefox and their bandwagon circus of plugins (many of which do not even serve a point with the exception of the very popular ad-block, and firebug) that bog down the browser as a whole.

“The Good : Upon installation , Google imports ALL of your bookmarks , passwords , web-history into Chrome with one click of the button !”

Upon further testing website loading times are blazing fast , I mean it’s insanely fast it makes me feel like I put an overclocked Intel Quad Core into my Intel Dual Core powered Sony Vaio Laptop. This only makes me even more anticipated for their Android Powered phones that will be coming out later this year in Q4 with Tmobile labeled the HTC DREAM.

There were a few features that did strike me as odd when I checked the task manager I saw that chrome opened up a new processes between 20-30 mb big PER tab. This might freak some people but it shouldn’t worry you because it is one of google chrome’s BEST features because let’s say you have 500 tabs open right ? Let’s also say just for the hell of it that website X causes a crash . . . . Meaning all your other windows must close down because of the crash right ? . . . NOPE

If one tab crashes, ONLY that tab and ONLY that tab will be closed down all of your other open tabs are safe , neat right ?

“The Bad : As of this moment plugins are not readily available but will be in good time so patience is needed. There is no menu such as the File > Edit > Favorite > Help”

As far as continuity goes and stability it is rock solid , I have only had 1 crash , I have had around 35-40 tabs open at the same time for about 1 week now and my computer has not had any memory hogging issues that you might run into let’s say umm a certain browser who’s mascot is a fox. Over time google chrome learns your patterns of which websites you frequent the most so that when you open a new tab , the homepage shows you a 9 picture panel of your Most Visited Sites. I liked that feature the most.

“The Ugly : I have heard reports from my best friends that they have noticed AFTER installing google chrome that their hard drives were spinning 24/7 and believed Google is indexing the hard drive to possibly learn of your interests and target you with specific ads. Due to the possible motive of indexing and learning in order to target you with Ads that it is suspicious that certain popular features are obviously missing such as noscript , adblock and flashblock. Who knows this is all speculation or perhaps a conspiracy theory hah !”

Overall I believe it’s a one powerful browser with lots of potential. To reward my readers I’m also gonna post a few links to some new and upcoming Google Chrome sites that offer Themes and Plugins (When they come out in full force).

Good post and review. I think Google Chrome has lots of potential and it is currently my most used browser. After the huge PR with the press, what concerns me is that Google pulled the link off of their homepage. They seem a bit wishy washy whether they want to be number one. :dizzy:

I don’t think Chrome is worth trying, at least at the moment. Lack of plugins, a small number of settings… Let’s wait for an official release. Can’t see any advantages in comparison with Firefox
