bay 25 reasons not to use Ebay ; (it sucks!) Auction Alternatives The auction monopoly giant that is Ebay has changed over the years and I for one don’t want this to be another anti-ebay article but I have been using them for quite some time since 2001 and I can no longer keep my emotions on the matter inside & hidden. Since the turn of the millennium Ebay has altered / added many rules and regulations to their auction site , the most notable ones are the annual & semi-annual price hikes. In a few words , Ebay SUCKS. If your not convinced by me continue reading below.

In my view Ebay has only made the environment for sellers increasingly hostile the older Ebay gets with each passing day. Actually scratch hostile out , the right word of how Ebay acts towards Sellers is "Vicious". So think to yourself for a second as to why am I ragging so much on the auction site ? Well check out this long list.

I present to you the 25 Reasons not to use Ebay (Paypal also) !

1 Sellers can NO longer leave negative feedback for a buyer , talk about level playing field. This is a real shame if the buyer is some Nigerian fraudster.
2 Paypal Holds your money for anything sold on ebay for 21 days. So they get to collect interest on YOUR money while you have to ship out the item while being at risk that if the customer makes just ONE complaint , you loose your money and shipment. This is just NOT practical for any business models to expect to wait 21 days for a source of revenue to flow in. STUPID Ebay !
3 As of now , you have NO alternatives other than to Ebay’s "safe" Paypal. So many people are gonna get screwed over with chargebacks and Paypal fees. It’s a shame really that you can’t even use checks as those are not safe anymore , as far as Ebay is concerned. Oh and Google checkout is not safe either , Ebay says HAH !
4 If you use or even mention in your auction description that you do not accept Paypal and want something such as Google Checkout then you will be Automatically Banned no questions asked.
5 It seems every 6-12 months they jack prices up with no warning (I wonder if they will hire actual humans to help customers on Ebay . . . . )
6 There are no human beings to help you , just Robots and more bots who give you the most automated responses in the world. (The robots don’t care about your feelings or problems)
7 This is my personal favorite , anyone including competitors can get your account banned by reporting you. For example userXYZ is selling counterfeit items , you usually get banned in 1 week within a report’s time period. I hear many scummy sellers do this to weed out the competition. (No there is no defense for this if it happens , it happens Ebay doesn’t care, they have their fee money from you already)
8 It seems that Ebay loves to charge you for fees even though you didn’t sell anything !
9 If you loose your password , Ebay reps will tell you that they can not reset your password but instead will send you an email with a form asking things such as "What is your mother’s maiden name" , If you were like me and just put something really random your screwed.
10 Nigerian scammers are everywhere , Their stories suckass "Oh my son is in Africa studying he needs your uber laptop real bad I’ll give you 8,000 USD cash and will mail it to you but please send me the laptop first". (If only I could find out where these guys really live I’d give them a piece of my mind or rather the steel tip of my boot !!)
11 The one complaint I hear many ebayers is if the winning bidder flakes out , you send an offer to the runner up winner in the auction , but Ebay takes ANOTHER cut in profits from you. C’mon Ebay are you serious ?
12 As of recent , If as you list your auction Ebay has a cute description telling you that Ebayers appreciate free shipping and that your shipping should not cost much , and if you are selling a laptop and charge lets say 19.99 for shipping with UPS. Ebay has the balls to tell you that your charging too much. Okay Ebay please , I beg you tell me how much it costs for a Box to hold a laptop , the bubble wrap , as well as the actual shipping with insurance + tracking. The kicker is if they think your charging too much or if someone reports you then you get your auction pulled & you might get banned.
13 If your ebay is suspended , the only way to get your account back is to fax them your Driver’s license , a Bank Statement or Utility Bill & life story to them via a fax # that does not work. (Most Likely NOT MEANT TO WORK, because they don’t hire human beings with the profit they make every 6-12 months via price hikes)
14 The new seller ratings Ebay started is skewed by buyers as not all buyers will give an honest answer about how accurate your description of the product is , how fast you shipped it and if your communication skills are up to par. Give me a break. !
15 Seller Warnings do NOT go away over time like Speeding Ticket Points do. Each warning essentially reduces the lifespan of your account so the next one may get you suspended.
16 I think personally Ebay has become a cesspool for counterfeiters to sell their crap online such as duo pro memory cards or those copycat Iphones. I really doubt I would get in the mail what I paid for when I saw something in an auction.
17 Ebay only gives you coupons to use on your orders only if your Account is linked to their Paypal Account.
18 If you get a chargeback from Paypal , the agents do no help you not even 1%. It is all automated and if you call them with proof of delivery from a carrier such as FedEx or UPS they still won’t believe your side. Don’t get caught by their trap by using paypal!
19 Ebay OWNS PAYPAL , so you get hit 3 times before you get your money   A) Before Sale B) After Sale Thanks Ebay for TRIPLE dipping! C) Paypal Fee
20 If you run your own website and mention it in your auction , expect to get the BOOT !
21 Ebay changes the rules if you sell a Next Generation Console and you must show a recepit and such for example when the PS3 launched.
22 You have idiots on Ebay trying to scam innocent people by selling them the box of the product instead of the actual product. It has been seen on Judge Judy (Victim was sold a picture of the product , it was in fine print on the bottom like in 2 font).
23 PayPal claims that they will fight chargebacks, but read this before you fall for that one.
24 Prices of products in auctions can be inflated BIG TIME by the seller himself/herself or their friends ! check out this article
25 "meg whitman is a bitch" ~ ebaysucks.blogspot.com
26 Ebay will disclose any and all of your information including financial to law enforcement according to this site.
27 People can alter their feedback by buying a bunch of penny items like wallpapers and ebooks to fluff up their feedback then scam someone else in the process.

My friends I will not leave you hanging with just a list I will also provide some alternatives to this ugly creature we call Ebay. (P.S. Craigslist is OFF this list because they are pretty much controlled by Ebay via control by shares)

Amazon - Everyone knows this site, I won’t have to explain much. They pay you every 15th and at the end of the month via a direct deposit to your bank. I alos read an article that Amazon is projected to get more hits during the holiday season than Ebay. Good for Amazon !

Overstock - They have surprisingly introduced an auction portion of there site to compete with Ebay I believe it’s working slowly.

Ebid - An Ebay alternative that has been in-the-making for quite some time and they are always improving and expanding locations/territories served.

Auctionaddict - At first seemed to be a dinky site that wanted to fight Ebay but they seem to be filling out in content , since the last time I checked them out.

Ubid - Another great site like Ebid only I beleive they have been in the game longer and their site looks very sleek very worth checking out !

I agree with all these. The shrill bidding has always been a problem there and I’d like to see Ebay go down.

Craig’s list is decent since it’s all local. If someone tries to scam me, I just let them stare into my double barrel shotgun… but that hasn’t happened yet :P Plus the job posting area has doubled my wife’s business in the Pet Sitting arena!

Thanks again for this great post and blog.

Agree. ebay introduces a lot unbalanced rules to seller. The new posting fee and final value fee are cheat! The sum up sold out cost is increased a lot in real. The so called “low” post fee cheats the new coming seller.

Ebay always sends new posting discount promotion letter to sellers. The benefits do not help very much. The discount benefits to very very low starting price only. The measure is no protection to below price finishing. The promotion aims at gathering more below price product for fight with other marketplace providers. Eg. amazon,etc..

I have quited from ebay, starting new website. It looks okay. No change a lot selling ebay.

2) Paypal holds your money

Paypal has never held any of my money, I wonder if you are in bad standing with them.

11) Ebay takes another cut

Has never happened to me, I don’t know if you are even talking about the same Ebay.com that I use.

The rules are always changing to the point nobody can keep up! I was suspended, found http://www.suspended-from-ebay.com and got back on. I can’t control the shipping cost and I get the blame. The rating system is the worst and the fact we cannot leave negs for buyers who do not pay or leave us negs for stupid reasons is crazy, too much control on their part.

CHECK OUT EBID !!! Ebid lists in 18 countries–they offer free lifetime membership–and if you are a seller get the seller PLUS lifetime membership–this will not be around for long as it is an introductory price–you will never pay a fee for listing and never pay a final value fee ever again–also try google checkout–Paypal is another greedy ebay venture that is a HUGE rip off. I just signed up for Ebid.net as a lifetime Plus seller and find the site is easier to use than ebay with less restrictions. For an up front $49. you will never ever pay a fee again for your lifetime!!!! It will take every last one of us to reject ebay and start using Ebid. It’s the best Ebay alternative out there–stop complaining and hit them where it hurts…Please do it now…I did.

What are you trying to accomplish here? How much of this stuff has actually happened to you? I’ve been on ebay for 5 years, and I don’t have anything to complain about. I haven’t had one transaction that wasn’t super smooth.

As for how ebay runs things, do you honestly think they have NO humans who work there? Of course they do, but would you like to be the middle man for essentially any two people on earth who choose to do business with each other? That’s why all their help is online. W

hen it comes to the fees, do you really expect them to host this humongous website that millions of people use for FREE? They have costs. How do you expect them to keep the site going if the don’t charge anything for the service?

I mean, you are entitled to your opinion and I don’t expect to change it; I just don’t see the point of this post or think that you have examined the situation logically.

From the point of the buyer who has never had any problems I accept your point , even so someone could run into trouble trying to buy without hassle.

But from a sellers viewpoint it is pure hell. With the latest addition of the DSR (average grading system) TONS of people are being forced off ebay and closing down their businesses. If you do the math there , less sellers = less competition which = higher prices for you and me.

If you've been following their stock they have been falling down in price and value which is no surprise to me. When they go out of business I'm gonna party like crazy.

I agree almost in everything you said… but the thing is that if you want to find something to buy, probably you will find it on eBay! The database is huge and eBay is now very popular and that breaks all competitions.

Interesting. I have seen CHEAPER and BETTER eBayalternatives and I think in time many people will go elsewhere. About greed recently eBay raised their fees and it does not help when youre charge high amounts vis PayPal too. By the way Nochex.co.uk a PayPal.co.uk alternative is better and cheaper.
ebid
sellit-right
amazon
ubid
overture
etc just google for alternatives are all better and cheaper in some cases.

I haven't been on eBay for years. More than often, I found stuff reasonably priced on retailers' websites anyway. Looking for a book? One can often find a book on Amazon or B&N along with their sellers at a bargain price that eBay can't beat. And there is no waiting and the unknown future whether you are gonna get the item or not.

You are soooo right. I recently sold lots of Microsoft softwares (just like tons of other ebay sellers do) but to find out that ebay suspended my account for not having the right to sell such thing and accused me of selling counterfeits on ebay. I was like what?!? I'm just like the ordinary seller selling exactly what other ebay sellers sell on ebay. I told them there are bunch of people not having the rights as well and was told that I need to go and report the other sellers for them. Man how am I suppose to do that since there are so many of them? It is so unfair and I suspect that I must have been the unlucky one to be reported by the competitors to ebay.
And the worst thing is that after a week my account was reinstated and I listed some designer clothes up which I bought but have never been worn and still with tags on, my account got suspended straight away due to the same freakin' reason!!! This is so ridiculous!! I just can't get over with the fact that there are many of them selling the same thing and yet I am the one that gets banned! Guess what, I am now being suspended for a year! EBAY SUCKS SO MUCH!!

how right this person is i have just had ebay suspend me for 7 days are they serious obviously not 7 days will my life collapse for 7 days if they were serious they would have said a year,
why the suspension exactly as you said 1 i can not give any other feedback to a buyer even when he mucks about with the paying. 2 I have to use pay pal i have no choice according to them wha thas happened to the word freedom of choice. 3 so I ask the buyer would you please pay me by cheque sorry said ebay you must not do this. 4 they offer you free insertion fees if you start @ 99 but increase their fees on other amounts. 5 some people try to give you neg feedback these are the power sellers they do not want you buying. 6 and lastly for this session paypal will not fight your case when the goods arrive and you want your money back for faults and if they do expect to wait any thing from 6 months to a year.

There is a forum I found on the internet that is free, and helps with Ebay, PayPal, business and the law. Just post any question, the experts will answer it if it has not already been answered!

The forum has a lot of expert advice on it. http://www.modeeworld.com/forums I found advice there about how to avoid EBAY suspensions, get past PayPal limitations, also lots of detailed help on creating your own business, getting past trademark violations, VERO and lots more. Plus general advice on how best to sell on EBAY, what sells the best, how to get the best price for your product, really everything related to EBAY and internet business.

Also advice about how EBAY really works and how PayPal really works. The inside scoop.

Beautiful forum. I was made a moderator of the forum and I love it!

Hello All! I read all of your remarks and I have to agree with everyone. How is this? Well when I was just a buyer I loved it and I would do the occasional sale on ebay and thought it was the greatest. I have been with ebay and paypal for over 4 years. And I thought I would love to be a power seller and make lots of money, I had a score of 100% good feedback and a score of 600. You would think this would be an easy task. NOT!!! I did all the research and found a wholesaler to buy from, then I started to sell my video game consoles. I would like over 20 items at a time. I made good money the first 2 days and then I got shut down. Paypal froze my account wanting receipts and tracking conformations. Not a problem I though. NOT!!! I did everything paypal wanted – in the mean time ebay froze my acc too (who know why). So I have all these complaints coming in because ebay sent everyone an email saying not to trust me and file a claim against me. Well it took 5 days to fix that, then 2 days later paypal closed my acc for the rest of my life! And ebay followed suit after that. So I now have over 1000 dollars in my paypal acc and I have to wait 6 months to get MY money back. How scummy is that! I have never violated any of ebays or paypals terms or conditions. I would never do business with them again, I hope more people will realize their business ethic. Sorry for so long, this by the way has just happen to me 2 days ago. Thanks ebay and paypal – I am now not paying your high fees and have a good company to sell from.

I argee ebay sucks!! stupidly high prices and the new seller DSR rating is the most stupid designever if your a low volume seller even a 3 star could f$%^ the monthly discount up, and to make it worse if you get three 1 or 2s in a year no stupid little badge that entitles your listings to be placed higher than everyone elses

I totally agree with this! I have been selling on eBay here and there, and buying as well. I too decided I wanted to become a power seller. So I started with selling some wholesale stuff I had purchased (non name brand), and didn’t profit too much.

Then I decided I wanted to sell some of my personal things to get my ratings higher (not a crime). I had a Louis Vuitton bag that I listed (with a documented authentication from the store and original receipt mind you). Twenty minutes after listing my bag I got an email about an account suspension. Somebody used all of my pictures, reported me, and then they said I was selling counterfeits. GREAT! The bidders were notified, it was terrible.

The same thing happened just yesterday with a Tiffany necklace of mine that has the receipt from Tiffany & Co.

However, I don’t see them doing this to powersellers who sell obvious fakes! They disgust me!!!

Great article and agree 100% myself and a friend of mine are two top ebay powersellers and we just launched an alternative site to ebay because we are sick of all the Bull also. Good example just did an auction last night, took me about an hour because we do some pretty high end graphics and stuff like that to make our auctions look good. Anyway it was up a day, then I get an email t’moring saying they ended it because it was “miscategorized”.. I went ahead and called them on it, how was it “miscategorized”, the lady at ebay says hold on a second… 5 minutes later.. I get the classic “well mr.xx Im sorry to inform you that we can not do anything about it and ….bla bla”.. well that really pissed me off.. Ive been on ebay for almost 10 years now, 100% pos. and treat my customers extremely well… they got a problem I refund them, no questions asked, they can go elsewhere.. but anyway we did just launch a new site that will actually take care of its members and customers, we have zero tolerance for bull, and actually care about our members.. anyway good article Im going to see what your rates are for your advertisements above!
Thanks,

Guys, you are missing the point power sellers are worth more to them than us occasional sellers. That’s why they shut you down first and not the others.

First time in ages I gone to sell something to find out that I have to offer free delivery. There reason for its :-

“From 15th June sellers listing in selected categories in Video Games, Mobile & Home Phones, Consumer Electronics, Computing, Photography, and Clothes, Shoes & Accessories will be required to offer free P&P as their first domestic postage option.

Why is eBay making this change?
Excessive P&P costs are cited as a major reason for buyers spending less on eBay. Free P&P is increasingly standard on online shopping sites, and offering the same on eBay contributes to a higher rate of successful sales. To ensure
eBay remains a dynamic marketplace, we’ll be introducing the requirement to offer free P&P for listings in selected categories (see below).

How will this benefit me?
Shoppers are more likely to buy your items if the P&P is free, as buyers are increasingly used to seeing free P&P offered while shopping online.”

Why is eBay making this change?

because if you you put a small price for the object 99p and then a large delivery cost. Ebay do not get as much money. It has absolutely nothing to benefit me if I wanted to do free shipping It was my choice now It’s not. In my case I was selling a flash, could just as easily be seeing a hat which is not cheap to send as it needs to be in a proper hat box.

So I just started selling on Ebay. I had my first 10 or 12 sales and everything seem to be going well. I WAS SO WRONG!! The next thing I sold sold for $140 sum odd dollars. The customer paid right away thru Paypal,so I shipped it out. Then I waited and waited and waited for the monies. What do you know?!! Paypal holding back my money(EBAY) for 21 days!!!!!!! So I send out my personal item and then I have to wait for three fn weeks for the money to be released?!!
So I called Paypal, totally got the run around and then of course transferred to an Ebay rep.(thye’re so infuriating to talk to!!!)and was on the phone for an hour listeningto them patronize with,”I understand your frustration, I would be frustrated too,” CRAP.
So I was told that them holding funds was completely random and the funds would be released soon. Ok,Fine
You’re not gona beleive this!! Let me tell you how random them holding the funds back is. After that first one they held, THEY HAVE NOW HELD THE FUNDS TO THE FOLLOWING 6 ITEMS I’VE SOLD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! How random can it be? So now paypal has over $300.00 of my dollars pending til who knows when!!! Keep in mind all the items have been mailed out too!!
So I called back(really pissed now)and I was told about their buyer protection plan. 6 months with Ebay or 100 positive feedbacks,UNTIL THEN THEY HAVE THE RIGHT TO HOLD BACK THE FUNDS ON EVERY TRANSACTION IF THEY LIKE!!! This is unbeleivable. Ebay has turned into the worst site online, as soon as I can I’m gone

It’s true. I have been with Ebay and Paypal for over 10 years.
The changes in the last two years allowed them to hold my money on several occasions, and, the BUYER Protection plan is to protect buyers from fraud, but in doing so
removes the sellers control of their own business.
Ebay is now Big Brother.
In reality, their more concerned with the huge amounts of money they receive from sellers in China and Hong Kong.
Small sellers did a lot to build Ebay and they are now forgotten.
Unfortunately, Ebay is not recommended if your starting a shoe string business.
They have now made it so that shoe string can easily strangle you before you know what’s happening.
Upillar.com may be the answer for now.

Great post, I couldn’t have said it better myself! After six years, I am done with Ebay. What gets me is the cheap buyers who want to buy my top notch quality name brand items for next to nothing, when I paid good money for them. If that’s the case, I can give it to goodwill or have a yard sale. A while back, you could find respectable buyers who were willing to pay a fair amount for quality merchandise. My last two selling experiences on Ebay have produced nothing more than cheap people who want to scam the sellers and get the merchandise for next to nothing.

I am about to stop selling on Ebay due to their recent requirement that anyone not holding a “Premium” store must pay 20 cents usd per item to list in their “Basic” store, whereas it was formerly only 3 cents USD. That means that my “Basic” store, which formerly cost me $24.95 USD per month and only 3 cents per item to list, now must move up tp a “Premiium” store at $45.95USD per month and 10 cents per item to list! Go figure! To top that off, if a buyer claims unhappiness with an item, Ebay just gives them their money back without question. The whole deal sucks.

I learned my lesson the hard way. A woman in England won a bid on a silver toast rack I had up for auction. She didn’t pay for six days. ($287.00)Four days after she paid, she went straight to dispute for non-receipt of item. I have a regular job and stated in my listing that I take up to four days to ship (from Texas). Long story short, eBay/PayPal sided with her from the beginning and none of the robots will listen to me or read my faxes showing the item shipped. Furthermore, PayPal dipped into my backup funding like it belonged to them for their own use. I can’t imagine using them again if this is what I can expect from them.

I’ve been a buyer and seller with ebay, but has never experienced them holding my money. a lot of the problems are caused by buyers who don’t like your listings. i got one who after making the bid and won the item, later questioned me about the cost of the shipping being high. i did post it the cost. the person isn’t paying for the item now. then i open a case to cancel the transaction so i can relist the item. moments later i got this message from ebay saying i’ve violated their policy by miscategorizing. this is the same item i’ve been relisting for sometime and they just sent me the message? i think the buyer for this item has reported me even the item was listed properly. i’ve never had miscategorized problem before. i’m gonna see about listing on other sites mentioned here. reason for ebay not wanting us seller to leave bad feedback is because they don’t want to scare away buyers, that means no money for them. gotta keep the business running. i agree they charge this and that, so there isn’t much profit to be made. thanks for the post.

Hmm… PayPal holds money for 21 days unless there is a dispute or until the seller ships the product right away to have it released early?????? I don’t understand.

The real dispute does not starts within 21 days while PayPal holds the money for seller unless the seller ships the product and then they will release it early. The real dispute starts within 45 days after the seller receives the payment into the bank and after the buyer receives the product. And PayPal holds the money for 21 days to prevent a dispute so it will allow the buyer to file a dispute to get money back to him as the first option whether something goes wrong with the product or whether the buyer receive the product. And that’s no excuse for PayPal to hold people’s money. PayPal does not have the right or the reason, nor do they have the legal authority to hold money for any reasons. When I was effected by this new policy on eBay, it didn’t teach me a lesson to learn to respect the buyer. It was just telling me what they want me to think to get the money.

eBay is just another pathetic excuse for a corporate giant. I have been waiting for a final value fee for over a month. They told me that it would be applied as credit for future selling fees. Are you F!@$#ing out of your mind eBay? I don’t want a CREDIT. I want my F!@$#ing money. A credit won’t do me any good because I can promise you, you will never see another transaction from my account you piece of S@!T.

I agree that ebay treats their sellers horrible. The buyer isn’t always right, but to ebay they are. I sold an item that was new, the buyer said it wasn’t and threatened to leave negative feedback. I offered for her to return it. She wanted the item price and shipping fee PLUS her return shipping fee. It doesn’t work that way, they only get item price and shipping fee paid, not return shipping fee. When I said no, she left negative feedback. Ebay will not remove it. Another item broke during shipping and the buyer never contacted me for a refund, just left negative feedback. I had several people bid and not pay, but there they sit with 100% positive feedback. Whats up with that??? The seller is the one that all the fees come from. If ebay keeps treating the sellers bad, they will end up with all buyers and nothing to buy because all the sellers will leave. I am closing my account. I am now selling on webstore and just listed on ecrater. GOODBYE ROTTEN EBAY!!!

You forgot to mention that they will find you guilty of a crime when not committing one, and ban you.
I placed some tvs on the auctions, having already ordered from what I supposed was a legitimate wholesaler, I was wrong and was scammed, all monies were paid to Paypal so I advised the people to claim their money back!! No-one lost any money, apart from me, so what was my crime??

Just read the last comment…Funny, regardless how poorly we are treated at the eBay, we will return. The conglomerate has much to offer the “little guy,” and will, unfortunately, remain the leader in the industry until some other conglomerate takes a cue. Btw, the buyer isn’t always right, but, why should eBay care? They have more sellers than buyers, hands down. Keep the buyers, and the sellers will eat out of their hands. The formula will hold true forever, and you and I will suffer…Keep selling, my friend, keep selling. EBay or otherwise, keep selling! You must!

Great article. Loved the list. Many of the shocked me. Many of them made me laugh. The auto banning after one week of being reported (7). Sounds like they simply have lost touch with their users and everything is on autopilot. Gone is good (human) customer service.

We have just launched the world’s first pay per bid auction marketplace. To date any pay per bid (penny auctions, lowest unique bid, reveal the price etc) site has only listed items themselves, not offered independent sellers access.

It’s called Exceet auctions and is located at http://exceet.com

Hate to come on here and plug our business but we think you’ll really appreciate an alternative selling marketplace to the traditional auction models. There’s tons of information on our site. So many of the complaints I read about we have as advantages on our site. Free unlimited listing, always getting paid, no shipping fees issues (included in the price), humans that want you to succeed, fair feedback, limited competition as we’re new, ability to earn above retail prices (given the pay per bid model) and much more. we’d love you to check us out. Thanks

Well, I have been suspended permanently from selling. Three negative feedback out of almost 200 hundred in close to two years. Last negative was from a woman who never paid me. I think she gave me all 0’s which brought down my ratings. They said I didn’t communicate enough. On top of that I had to refund two items and the buyers kept the items other wise I would have paid for shipping back to me. I see people who scam all the time. I cancelled my account but it will take 30 days for it to close. Check out my feedback. My name was rainbows.419
I am stunned!

Today may be last straw, as a powerseller with top rated status, and on ebay since 1999, Searching hard for alternative. Will not go into the HORROR story over the last couple months with ebay and paypal. However I see no real place other than developing my own website and hustling customers to it via google and etc…

Looking for a real place to sell..Any options?

eBay sucks, they are most spaming site ever exsisted, and they just don’t care about their users, you don’t get costumer service newer, and to find where you can mail them or call them you need to be expert.

Really, I have newer before find such a bad costumer service! But they will not let you left, if you still have to pay 0,01€ beacause this is the only one thing they are accurate at, their own ass.

So i suggest to all reading this, find another side.

And this is only true, today I am leaving this shitty eBay.

Your above reasons that Ebay has dropped out of top 10 in internet traffic are good but can be boiled down. Ebay, and paypal (one company) have become too controlling with sellers, always side with buyers in the case of a dispute, and restrict the legal items that they allow on their site. Have you ever listed a native american piece of jewelery, with a real bear claw in it, or a dozen live quail chicks -ready to be released on your ranch? Ebay will terminate the listing, charge you the listing fees anyway, and warn you that if you list a banned item again they will suspend you as a seller. There is an alternative auction site that caters to these legal items that are banned, it is Ealtbay.com. These types of items are allowed, they can be listed for free, have very low final value fees, and Paypal is NOT necessary. Give it a look.

We too have been with ebay for over 9 years, are a powerseller and a TRS, and we are sick and tired of their dictatorship tactics, fed up with them messing about with clearly what they do not understand. We too over the past 12 months have a Horror Story in fact its been a huge nightmare and continues to be. Their policies change day to day without any warning apart from an email informing you that you now have a low policy compliance. We can think of nothing to say that is positive about this companies procedures, and are desperately seeking alternatives. We are with another auction site and have our own website and our items sell , with no aggrevation at all. Alas ebay still produces the most business for us so its a catch 22, “cut of your nose to spite your face”, however, at the first sign of another viable auction site we would not give ebay the time of day. The staff are ignorant, untrained, rude and non respectful. Their policies are there for the “big boys” who seem to be able to blackmail them – obviously financial benefits and their attitude to their sellers and buyers alike are absolutely shocking. Most of the time we get the impression that the left does not know what the right is doing. Customer Support can advise you one way and another Customer Support informs you it is wrong. Their search is flawed, their information now is mispelt, their wording on most of their emails gives us the idea that they are all illiterate, whatever happened to respect when contacting people, ebay say words like Hiya – this is a multi million pound company with a bad attitude. I cannot understand why ebay is not falling off the cliff, we need someone somewhere to take them on – big time. I am sure most sellers and buyers would flock to another site with the right publicity. Which now brings me to Pay Pal, after 9 years of trading as an honest, respectable company with 100% feedback, when we got a policy breach on ebay (which was not really us doing anything wrong it was a change of policy on ebays behalf) – pay pal gave us another headache and withheld our funds – it has taken many months to get sorted – so everyone out there be very very careful. You think it will not happen to you, but we can assure you any change of ebay policy can cause a nightmare and one long migraine !!

hi,
I totally agree with what you say about ebay and paypal! I too was suspended not to long ago because ebay said i was in trade mark violation and that i didnt have enough feedbacks from my buyers. Not only did i have one waring but but i had 2 more after that, so i contacted ebay because i felt like im being targeted by someone other then ebay, just like what is said here in #7, i was a traget by other sellers selling the same items, i was selling authentic items and ebay kept kicking my listings off because some joe smoe decides to report my items due to competion with other sellers!! Ebay doesnt care if your items are authentic or not if you keep getting reports then ebay will eventually suspend you indefinately! although all my feedbacks were positive and never once had a neg feedback, ebay didnt care! What happend to good standings with 100% pos feedbacks?? What kills me is that my listing was my own pics and wording, I told ebay theres hundreds of listings that were copy and paste but were still able to sell, and they were selling fakes!!

with all honesty EBAY SUCKS….its only okay if you are the buyer but for sellers,it is so bad.i am talking from experience, they have lots of ways in getting money from you and they just suspend your account unnecessarily.you can’t leave negative feedback as a seller but negative feedback can be left for you.paypal is even worse,i don’t wish my enemy to have a problem with paypal,i sold a wristwatch and posted it as next day delivery with proof of delivery and signature of the buyer showing on royal mail tracking site, and the buyer still claiming that item was not received and after lots of hazzles,i was given my money but to my surprise after 3months paypal gave the money back to buyer stating that the buyer has charged them via the card issue and therefore nothing paypal could do,in other words buyer have item and money.so many things like that.EBAY REALLY SUCKS FOR SELLERS BUT OK FOR BUYERS

Hello, I just became a seller on eBay and none of my items sold. I have of coarse accumulated the fees. I will now lose the fee money charged? Am I understanding that a competitor will bin or win bid and then file a false low score to build up their buyer base by smearing a new seller? Paypal cannot suspend my entire account but can hold or suspend money from sold items randomly AND law/policy/shipping violations? Maybe I should back out before anything gets sold. I tried to get close to shipping cost and was setting flat shipping fees and tried the calculated approach too. Is there a reasonable oversite allowance and is one way of shipping a suicide note? Maybe amazon is the way to go. Comments welcome. Thanks for all this info. The thing that is making me consider an alternate sell avenue is holding money. I know there are bp laws even if you do not except returns but you would think that they would charge you instead of holding.

What I have done for years is just use ebay for another cheap ad medium for my products. I list prices nearly double the price on ebay which there are plenty links in my ad to direct them to get the same product for 1/2 the price from my website. Cheap cheap advertising for a few bucks a month!

I would never pay ebay the selling fees they want, what a joke!!

Besides, ebay has sold out to china scammers who make up most of the sellers now so why would you really support them anyway besides abusing their service for cheap adverts! Having 30 day ads on ebay does help with your Website SEO for only a few dollars a month and have had many sales doing this!

I agree that Ebay has really hosed those trying to sell. The postage fee is the biggest ripoff going. First off, Paypal takes a percentage of the total amount (including postage) and then Ebay charges a percentage for postage. What the heck is with that? So we don’t pay a listing fee, yippee–but they more than make up for it in a final eval and postage percentages. Sold an item for $9.99 and after all was said and done, netted $7.48. Outrageous!! $2.50 in fees on a $10 item? That is nuts!

I would like to add to the disappointment of ebay also. They have recently added a best seller symbol, which pushes your item off the page. I had 4 minutes left to sell and if someone was looking for items ending, they simply would have missed out, because it wasn’t on the front page where it should have been. By the time they viewed items not ending, the auction would had finished. But the biggest shock was the final fee, it has doubled since last month. I simply can’t afford to sell at that rate, it is personal items I paid good money for. With high fees, low returns and getting pushed out of the que by these new symbol sellers, it’s all too much. Ebay has a target market and they don’t care if people leave, it’s what they want.

Shame on you Ebay your greed will be your downfall.

Gave upon ebay years ago, just after they changed the goalposts on sellers not being able to fight back. Total crock of cr@p it is easier to drive my van to the local car boot sale, pay my £20 pitch, sell my gear, drive away with £700+ cash and never have to see the miserable muppets that were fool enough to part with their cash in the first place or face the tax man. Ebay is a horrible, risky place for Buyers too. Even if 99% of sellers are honest that 1% ruin it because it is not worth the Russian Roulette of finding out when you will be screwed over. I canceled a couple of weeks ago due to a horrible experience after several years of buying from the site. I will be using more secure, trusted sites and actual stores in the future. It’s just not worth the risk and stress.
